The four-line stanza of these 'Four Dharmas' is said to be the very
quintessence of all of Gampopa's teachings. It is a universal template
for the various views, paths, meditations and conduct of the famous
'three types of dharma person'* as well as being a template for the special
path of Mahamudra, with its foundation practices and actual meditations.

These teachings are based on a transmission from Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche,
given in Dublin in the 1980s, translated by Ken.

* The three types of dharma person are the lay Buddhist, the Shravaka
renunciate and the bodhisattva.
